Culture Fund @ Zimbabwe Fashion Week 2012

In its 3rd year running, the Zimbabwe Fashion week will this year be held over 3 days from Thursday the 30th of August to Saturday the 1st of September 2012 at the VW Showroom in Harare. The Zimbabwe Fashion week provides a platform for one of the still marginalised and underrated arts forms in Zimbabwe. Fashion the world over carries in it the essence of a nations traditions  and imbues them in a piece of clothing to capture heritage, language, dance and even beliefs.  Fashion is one of the most functional art forms not necessarily art for arts sake, its development as a viable industry is vital.

Zimbabwe Fashion Week continues to grow featuring local Zimbabwean fashion designers who do not have a ready avenue and platform for expression.  The event has and continues to create platforms for the showcasing of local and international talent giving the local designers a space to be held up next to their international and regional counterparts. The Culture Fund continues to offer technical support to the event this year through the provision of sound equipment for the 3 day event.

Zimbabwe Fashion Week(ZFW) was founded by Priscilla Chigariro in October 2009. Its main purpose is to create a platform for Zimbabwean Designers to showcase their creations as well as to help rekindle what was once a thriving textile and fashion industry.  Zimbabwe Fashion Week jets into 2012 with a new pace. Striving to exceed previous events, expectations and step into the international fashion industry, Breaking Barriers. The focus of this year’s theme “Breaking Barriers” is on technology and its’ progression and affect, not only in the fashion world but all areas.(ZFWT)
